Approvals in Slack and Teams
Let approvers decide agents' requests from Slack, and post a notice for each request in a Microsoft Teams channel.
Approval requests always arrive in Everdeck and by email. You can also send them to Slack, where linked approvers decide with buttons, and to a Microsoft Teams channel as a notice with a button that opens the request in Everdeck. Both are set up per company on the Chat approvals page.
Set up Slack
Company admins set this up. You need Slack connected to the company first, with your Slack app's Signing Secret: see the Slack setup guide. A Slack app has one Request URL, so each company needs its own Slack app.
- On Chat approvals, under Slack, choose the Slack connection.
- Choose Where requests go: A direct message to each linked approver, or One message in a channel, mentioning linked approvers (select Load channels to pick one). Everyone in a channel sees each request's details, such as what an email would say, so use a private channel for approvers.
- Choose Decide in Slack up to: tier 1, 2 or 3. Tier 4 is always decided in Everdeck, and so are requests from people.
- Select Save and turn on. Saving asks you to confirm it's you.
- Copy the Interactivity Request URL the page shows. In your Slack app at api.slack.com/apps, open Interactivity & Shortcuts, turn Interactivity on, paste the Request URL and save (reinstall the app if Slack asks).
- Select Send a test message. Once Slack has called Everdeck, the page says Buttons work.
Anyone who knows the Slack app's Signing Secret can act as Slack, so keep the app's collaborators to the people who manage approvals.
Link your Slack account
Each approver links their own Slack account, under Your Slack account on the same page:
- Choose By the email you use in Slack or By your Slack member ID, and enter it.
- Select Link my Slack account. Linking asks you to confirm it's you.
- Slack sends you a direct message. Confirm the link there within 15 minutes. Nothing is linked until you do.
Once linked, the requests that wait for you arrive in Slack with Approve and Reject buttons, up to the tier the company chose. Select Unlink to stop. Signing out of every other session, or changing your password, unlinks your Slack account too, and you link it again.
Admins see everyone linked under People linked and can Unlink anyone. Unlinking someone else asks you to confirm it's you first, then brings you back to this page to select Unlink again.
Set up Microsoft Teams
Teams gets a notice in one channel for each request, with a button to decide in Everdeck. Approving inside Teams isn't available.
- Connect Microsoft Teams to the company first: see the Microsoft Teams setup guide.
- Under Microsoft Teams, choose the Microsoft Teams connection, select Load teams to choose the Team, then the Channel.
- Select Save and turn on, which asks you to confirm it's you.
Turn it off
Turn off stops requests going to Slack or Teams; they still arrive in Everdeck and by email. Turning off and unlinking your own Slack account don't ask for your second factor, since they only take access away. Unlinking someone else does, because it cuts them off from deciding in Slack.
