Ways to connect

A company admin connects PayPal from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.

Every way in uses an app you create with PayPal, so access stays under your control. The setup guide walks you through it.

  • Your PayPal REST app (client ID and secret) Your OAuth app

Create an app of your own with PayPal and paste its credentials into Everdeck. The connection then works without anyone signing in.

What agents can do with PayPal

An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.

Runs on its own 7

Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.

  • Search transactions Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List account activity (payments, refunds, fees, transfers) in a window of at most 31 days, newest data up to 3 hours behind, going back 3 years. Filter by transaction id, status (S completed, P pending, D denied, V reversed), currency or amount range. For a PayPal Checkout payment the transaction id is the capture id used by refund_payment.

  • Get balances Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Get the PayPal account's total, available and withheld balance in each currency (refreshed up to 3 hours late).

  • Search invoices Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Find PayPal invoices by recipient email or business name, invoice number, status (DRAFT, SENT, SCHEDULED, PAID, MARKED_AS_PAID, CANCELLED, REFUNDED, PARTIALLY_PAID, PARTIALLY_REFUNDED, MARKED_AS_REFUNDED, UNPAID, PAYMENT_PENDING, AUTO_CANCELLED, PAID_EXTERNAL, REFUNDED_EXTERNAL, SHARED) or due-date range. Returns totals and amount due.

  • Read an invoice Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Read one invoice with recipient, lines, amounts, payments, refunds and the payer link (detail.metadata.recipient_view_url).

  • Draft an invoice Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Create a draft PayPal invoice for a recipient email with line items. Nothing is sent until send_invoice. Amounts are decimal strings in the invoice currency.

  • List disputes Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List customer disputes and claims, newest first, created since start_time (within 180 days) or for one transaction. dispute_state REQUIRED_ACTION means you must respond, usually before seller_response_due_date.

  • Read a dispute Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Read one dispute: reason, amount, stage, deadlines, disputed transactions, messages exchanged, offers and the actions currently allowed (links with rel such as send_message, provide_evidence or accept_claim).

Asks first 2

Anything a customer or the public sees. By default a charter grants these as Ask first: the agent sends an approval request and waits for a yes. A company admin can switch one to Auto in the charter after confirming with their second factor. Even then, once an agent has read outside content, such as a customer's email, its tier 3 and 4 actions need a person by default for the rest of that session.

  • Send a payment reminder Tier 3 · External Outside content

Email the recipient a reminder about an unpaid sent invoice, using PayPal's standard reminder text. PayPal lets an API caller send only 2 reminders a day.

  • Message the buyer about a dispute Tier 3 · External Outside content

Send a message to the buyer in a dispute that is still in the INQUIRY stage (get_dispute shows a send_message link), for example shipment tracking or an offer to help. The buyer sees it in PayPal's Resolution Center.

Always asks a person 3

Payments, deletions, permission changes and anything that can't be undone. A person approves every use, and no charter or approval rule can switch that off.

  • Refund a payment Tier 4 · Money or irreversible Outside content

Refund a captured payment in full, or partly with amount and currency. The buyer gets the money back and sees note_to_payer in their history and email.

  • Send an invoice Tier 4 · Money or irreversible Outside content

Send a draft invoice to its recipient by PayPal email (or schedule it when the invoice date is in the future). After sending, the customer can pay it online.

  • Record an offline payment Tier 4 · Money or irreversible

Mark an invoice paid (or partly paid) for money received outside PayPal, such as a bank transfer or cash. This changes the invoice status only; no money moves.

Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.

What can start work

Nothing in PayPal starts agent work by itself. Agents use it while they work on tasks from the board, from other agents or from the sources on the Intake page.

Work an agent can take on

Examples for apps in Payments & accounting. What an agent does with PayPal depends on the actions you grant it.

  • Draft invoices for a person to check and send.
  • Find unpaid invoices and list them for follow-up.
  • Sum up balances and recent transactions in a weekly report.
