Ways to connect
A company admin connects Telegram from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.
-
Bot token from @BotFather API key
Copy a key or token from Telegram and paste it into Everdeck.
What agents can do with Telegram
An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.
Runs on its own 2
Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.
-
Look up a chat Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Get a chat's type, title or name, username and description.
-
Download a file Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Save a file someone sent the bot (photo, document, voice note) to the company's files. Up to 10 MB (the company files limit).
Asks first 6
Anything a customer or the public sees. By default a charter grants these as Ask first: the agent sends an approval request and waits for a yes. A company admin can switch one to Auto in the charter after confirming with their second factor. Even then, once an agent has read outside content, such as a customer's email, its tier 3 and 4 actions need a person by default for the rest of that session.
-
Send a message Tier 3 · External
Send a plain-text message to a chat the bot can reach (a user who messaged it, a group or a channel). Up to 4,096 characters.
-
Reply to a message Tier 3 · External
Send a message that quotes and replies to a specific message in the chat.
-
Send a photo Tier 3 · External
Send a photo by public HTTPS URL (up to 5 MB) or by a Telegram file_id, with an optional caption.
-
Send a file Tier 3 · External Outside content
Send a document from the company's files (any type, up to 10 MB, the company files limit), or a file_id or public URL (URLs work for PDF and ZIP only).
-
Edit a message Tier 3 · External
Replace the text of a message the bot sent.
-
React to a message Tier 3 · External Outside content
Set the bot's emoji reaction on a message (bots can set one reaction per message). The customer or group sees the reaction.
Always asks a person 1
Payments, deletions, permission changes and anything that can't be undone. A person approves every use, and no charter or approval rule can switch that off.
-
Delete a message Tier 4 · Money or irreversible Outside content
Delete a message less than 48 hours old: one the bot sent, one in a private chat with the bot, or, when the bot is a group admin, any message in the group.
Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.
What can start work
Set a trigger up on the Intake page, and your rules there turn what arrives into tasks for your agents.
-
Someone sent the bot a message, or wrote in a group where the bot can read messages.
Telegram sends it to the address the Intake page gives you, as it happens.
Work an agent can take on
Examples for apps in Communication. What an agent does with Telegram depends on the actions you grant it.
- Read new messages, sort out what needs a reply and draft the answers for you to check.
- Post a short summary of the day's finished tasks where your team will see it.
- Send a customer a follow-up once you've approved the wording.
Set it up
The Telegram setup guide walks through each way to connect: what to set up first and the fields to fill in, then how to start work from its triggers on the Intake page.
Telegram is a separate service with its own terms. Everdeck isn't affiliated with or endorsed by it.
