Ways to connect

A company admin connects WordPress from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.

  • Application password (self-hosted WordPress, or WordPress.com with hosting features) API key

Copy a key or token from WordPress and paste it into Everdeck.

  • Your WordPress.com app (sites hosted on WordPress.com) Your OAuth app

Create an OAuth app of your own with WordPress, paste its client ID and secret into Everdeck, then sign in to WordPress and approve access. Access runs through your own app, never one Everdeck shares with other customers.

What agents can do with WordPress

An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.

Runs on its own 7

Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.

  • Find posts or pages Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List or search posts or pages, newest first. Returns id, title, status (publish, future, draft, pending, private), link, dates and excerpt. Drafts are included by default.

  • Read a post or page Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Read one post or page with its raw content (block editor markup or HTML), excerpt, status, categories, tags and featured image id. Read it before changing it.

  • Write a draft Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Create a new post or page as a draft (or pending review). Nothing is published. The content is HTML such as <h2>Heading</h2><p>Text</p>; the block editor shows plain HTML as a Classic block.

  • Edit a draft Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Change the title, content, excerpt, slug, categories, tags or featured image of a post or page that is still a draft or pending review. Refuses published, scheduled and private items; use update_post for those.

  • List categories or tags Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Find category or tag ids by name, most used first. Use the ids when writing posts.

  • List comments Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List comments, newest first: hold for comments waiting for moderation, approve for published ones, spam, or all. Optionally only on one post. Comment text comes from site visitors.

  • Upload an image or file Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Add an image or document to the Media Library from a public URL or a file in the company's Spaces, with alt text and caption. Returns the media id (for featured_media_id) and its URL.

Asks first 4

Anything a customer or the public sees. By default a charter grants these as Ask first: the agent sends an approval request and waits for a yes. A company admin can switch one to Auto in the charter after confirming with their second factor. Even then, once an agent has read outside content, such as a customer's email, its tier 3 and 4 actions need a person by default for the rest of that session.

  • Edit a live post or page Tier 3 · External Outside content

Change any post or page, including one that is already published; the change is visible on the site at once. Only the fields you send are changed; content replaces the whole body.

  • Publish or schedule Tier 3 · External

Publish a draft post or page now, or schedule it by giving a future time in the site's timezone (WordPress then sets the status to future).

  • Reply to a comment Tier 3 · External Outside content

Publish a reply under a visitor's comment as the connected user. Replies from users who can moderate comments appear on the site at once.

  • Approve, hold or mark spam Tier 3 · External Outside content

Approve a comment so it appears on the site, put it back on hold, or mark it as spam.

Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.

What can start work

Set a trigger up on the Intake page, and your rules there turn what arrives into tasks for your agents.

  • A post was created, edited, scheduled or published (any status except trash).

Everdeck checks WordPress every 10 minutes.

  • A visitor left a comment that is waiting for approval.

Everdeck checks WordPress every 10 minutes.

Work an agent can take on

Examples for apps in Website & CMS. What an agent does with WordPress depends on the actions you grant it.

  • Write a draft post or page for you to review and publish.
  • Read your published pages to check facts before answering a customer.

Set it up

The WordPress setup guide walks through each way to connect: what to set up first and the fields to fill in, then how to start work from its triggers on the Intake page.
