Ways to connect

A company admin connects YouTube from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.

Every way in uses an app you create with YouTube, so access stays under your control. The setup guide walks you through it.

  • API key (public data only) API key

Copy a key or token from YouTube and paste it into Everdeck.

  • Your Google OAuth app (manage the channel) Your OAuth app

Create an OAuth app of your own with YouTube, paste its client ID and secret into Everdeck, then sign in to YouTube and approve access. Access runs through your own app, never one Everdeck shares with other customers.

What agents can do with YouTube

An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.

Runs on its own 7

Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.

  • Get channel details Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Title, handle, description and subscriber, view and video counts of a channel (the connected one by default), plus its uploads playlist ID.

  • Search videos Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Search public YouTube videos by keywords, optionally within one channel or after a date. Uses the separate search quota (100 searches a day by default), so prefer list_channel_videos for the connected channel.

  • List channel videos Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List the connected channel's uploaded videos with titles and publish times.

  • Get video details Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Title, description, tags, category, privacy status, duration and view, like and comment counts for up to 50 videos.

  • List comments on a video Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List top-level comments on a video with author, text, time, likes and reply count. Use moderation_status heldForReview or likelySpam (owner only) to review held comments.

  • List comments across the channel Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List the newest top-level comments on all of the connected channel's videos, with the video ID, author, text and time.

  • Get channel analytics Tier 0 · Read Outside content

YouTube Analytics for the connected channel between two dates: views, watch time, average view duration, likes, comments, shares and subscribers gained and lost, by day or filtered to one video.

Only with Your Google OAuth app (manage the channel).

Asks first 4

Anything a customer or the public sees. By default a charter grants these as Ask first: the agent sends an approval request and waits for a yes. A company admin can switch one to Auto in the charter after confirming with their second factor. Even then, once an agent has read outside content, such as a customer's email, its tier 3 and 4 actions need a person by default for the rest of that session.

  • Update video details Tier 3 · External Outside content

Change a video's title, description, tags, category or privacy. Fields you leave out keep their current values.

Only with Your Google OAuth app (manage the channel).

  • Upload a video Tier 3 · External Outside content

Upload a video file from a URL to the connected channel, private by default. Videos from unaudited API projects stay private whatever privacy you choose.

Only with Your Google OAuth app (manage the channel).

  • Reply to a comment Tier 3 · External Outside content

Reply publicly to a top-level comment as the channel.

Only with Your Google OAuth app (manage the channel).

  • Publish or hold comments Tier 3 · External Outside content

Publish up to 50 held comments on the connected channel's videos, or hold published ones for review, which hides them from viewers until they are published again. Prefer holding to rejecting.

Only with Your Google OAuth app (manage the channel).

Always asks a person 1

Payments, deletions, permission changes and anything that can't be undone. A person approves every use, and no charter or approval rule can switch that off.

  • Reject comments Tier 4 · Money or irreversible Outside content

Reject up to 50 comments on the connected channel's videos so they are no longer shown. This cannot be undone: a rejected comment can never be published again.

Only with Your Google OAuth app (manage the channel).

Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.

What can start work

Set a trigger up on the Intake page, and your rules there turn what arrives into tasks for your agents.

  • Someone posted a new top-level comment on one of the channel's videos.

Everdeck checks YouTube every 15 minutes.

Work an agent can take on

Examples for apps in Social & ads. What an agent does with YouTube depends on the actions you grant it.

  • Read new comments and messages and draft replies for you to approve.
  • Report each week on how your posts and pages performed.

Set it up

The YouTube setup guide walks through each way to connect: what to set up first and the fields to fill in, then how to start work from its triggers on the Intake page.
