Ways to connect
A company admin connects Asana from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.
-
Personal access token API key
Copy a key or token from Asana and paste it into Everdeck.
-
Your Asana OAuth app Your OAuth app
Create an OAuth app of your own with Asana, paste its client ID and secret into Everdeck, then sign in to Asana and approve access. Access runs through your own app, never one Everdeck shares with other customers.
What agents can do with Asana
An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.
Runs on its own 12
Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.
-
List workspaces Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List the workspaces and organizations this account belongs to, with their gids.
-
List projects Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List projects in a workspace, with owner, due date and link.
-
List sections Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List the sections (board columns) of a project. Use a section gid with move_task_to_section.
-
List tasks Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List tasks in a project or section, or a person's tasks in a workspace (give assignee and workspace_gid together). completed_since "now" returns only incomplete tasks. modified_since returns tasks changed after a time.
-
Search tasks Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Search a workspace's tasks by text and filters, most recently modified first. Needs a paid Asana plan (returns 402 on free workspaces; use list_tasks there). New changes take 10 to 60 seconds to become searchable.
-
Read a task Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read one task: name, description, status, assignee, dates, projects and sections, tags, parent, custom fields and link.
-
Read comments Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read the comments on a task, newest first.
-
Find people Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Find people in a workspace by name. Returns gids to use as assignee.
-
Create a task Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Create a task in one or more projects (or in a workspace with no project). Add it to a board column afterwards with move_task_to_section.
-
Update a task Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Change a task's name, description, assignee, dates or custom fields, or mark it complete (completed true) or incomplete again. Send only what changes; null clears a value.
-
Move a task to a section Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Move a task into a section (board column) of a project it belongs to. It leaves its other section in that project.
-
Comment on a task Tier 2 · Reversible
Add a comment to a task. Followers of the task (including guests, if any) see it and are notified.
Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.
What can start work
Set a trigger up on the Intake page, and your rules there turn what arrives into tasks for your agents.
-
A task in a watched project was added, changed, completed, moved or removed.
Asana sends it to the address the Intake page gives you, as it happens.
-
A comment was added to a task in a watched project (story added, subtype comment_added).
Asana sends it to the address the Intake page gives you, as it happens.
Work an agent can take on
Examples for apps in Projects & tasks. What an agent does with Asana depends on the actions you grant it.
- Turn a request that arrived by email or chat into a task with the right project and due date.
- Comment on the work items it handles and move them along your workflow.
- List overdue work every morning for the person who owns it.
Set it up
The Asana setup guide walks through each way to connect: what to set up first and the fields to fill in, then how to start work from its triggers on the Intake page.
Asana is a separate service with its own terms. Everdeck isn't affiliated with or endorsed by it.
