Ways to connect
A company admin connects Smartsheet from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.
-
API access token API key
Copy a key or token from Smartsheet and paste it into Everdeck.
-
Your Smartsheet app (US region) Your OAuth app
Create an OAuth app of your own with Smartsheet, paste its client ID and secret into Everdeck, then sign in to Smartsheet and approve access. Access runs through your own app, never one Everdeck shares with other customers.
What agents can do with Smartsheet
An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.
Runs on its own 10
Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.
-
List sheets Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List the sheets you can access, optionally only those changed since a time.
-
Search everything Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Search all sheets you can access for text. Results include matching rows, sheets, discussions and attachments with the sheet they belong to. Wrap text in double quotes for an exact match.
-
Search a sheet Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Find the rows in one sheet that contain some text. objectId in each result is the row id.
-
Read a sheet Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read a sheet's columns and rows (cell values with the column id they belong to). Narrow it with row_ids, column_ids or rows_modified_since, and page through large sheets.
-
List columns Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List a sheet's columns with ids, titles, types and dropdown options. Column ids are needed to write cells.
-
Read a row Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read one row with its cells and column titles.
-
Add rows Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Add one or more rows. Each row lists its cells by column id (from list_columns) and where it goes: toBottom (default), toTop, or parentId to nest it under another row.
-
Update rows Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Change cell values in existing rows. Each row needs its id and only the cells to change; other cells keep their values.
-
Read row comments Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read the discussions on a row with their comments.
-
Comment on a row Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Start a discussion on a row with a comment. Everyone the sheet is shared with can read it.
Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.
What can start work
Nothing in Smartsheet starts agent work by itself. Agents use it while they work on tasks from the board, from other agents or from the sources on the Intake page.
Work an agent can take on
Examples for apps in Projects & tasks. What an agent does with Smartsheet depends on the actions you grant it.
- Turn a request that arrived by email or chat into a task with the right project and due date.
- Comment on the work items it handles and move them along your workflow.
- List overdue work every morning for the person who owns it.
