Ways to connect

A company admin connects Linear from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.

  • Personal API key API key

Copy a key or token from Linear and paste it into Everdeck.

  • Your Linear OAuth app Your OAuth app

Create an OAuth app of your own with Linear, paste its client ID and secret into Everdeck, then sign in to Linear and approve access. Access runs through your own app, never one Everdeck shares with other customers.

What agents can do with Linear

An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.

Runs on its own 10

Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.

  • Search issues Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Full-text search across issue titles and descriptions (and comments if include_comments is true), ranked by relevance. Limited to 30 calls per minute; to list issues by team, state or assignee use list_issues.

  • List issues Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List issues matching a filter, most recently updated first. Returns identifier, title, state, assignee, priority, due date, team and project.

  • Read an issue Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Read one issue by identifier (for example ENG-123) or id: description (Markdown), state, assignee, priority, labels, project, team and the latest comments.

  • Create an issue Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Create an issue in a team. Use list_teams for team and state ids, list_users for assignee ids and list_labels for label ids.

  • Update an issue Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Change an issue: title, description, workflow state (to move it), assignee, priority, labels, project or due date. Send only what changes; null clears a value (for example "assigneeId": null unassigns).

  • Comment on an issue Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Add a Markdown comment to an issue. Subscribers of the issue are notified.

  • List teams Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List teams with their keys and workflow states (id, name and type: backlog, unstarted, started, completed or canceled). Use the state ids to move issues.

  • List people Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List workspace members with their ids, names and emails, optionally filtered.

  • List projects Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List projects with their status, lead, target date, progress and teams.

  • List labels Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List issue labels with their ids and teams (workspace labels have no team).

Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.

What can start work

Set a trigger up on the Intake page, and your rules there turn what arrives into tasks for your agents.

  • An issue was created, updated or removed (webhook type Issue).

Linear sends it to the address the Intake page gives you, as it happens.

  • A comment was added to an issue (webhook type Comment, action create).

Linear sends it to the address the Intake page gives you, as it happens.

Work an agent can take on

Examples for apps in Projects & tasks. What an agent does with Linear depends on the actions you grant it.

  • Turn a request that arrived by email or chat into a task with the right project and due date.
  • Comment on the work items it handles and move them along your workflow.
  • List overdue work every morning for the person who owns it.

Set it up

The Linear setup guide walks through each way to connect: what to set up first and the fields to fill in, then how to start work from its triggers on the Intake page.
