Customer.io
Messaging automation driven by customer data. Agents look up people, their attributes and the messages they received, update profiles, record events that start automations, send transactional emails, and draft, send and report on one-time newsletters.

Ways to connect
A company admin connects Customer.io from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.

What agents can do with Customer.io
An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.
Runs on its own 8
Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.
-
Find people by email Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Find the people in the workspace with this email address. Returns each person's id and cio_id, which the other person actions take.
-
Read a person Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read a person's attributes, identifiers, devices and whether they are unsubscribed from all messages.
-
List messages sent to a person Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List the messages delivered to a person (last 6 months by default), newest first, with subject, channel, delivery metrics and any failure reason. Use it when a customer says they did not get an email.
-
Create or update a person Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Add a person or update their attributes (for example plan, company or signup date). Only the attributes sent change. Segments and automations that depend on these attributes react to the change. Cannot change unsubscribe status.
-
List segments Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List segments (data-driven and manual) with their ids, for targeting newsletters.
-
List newsletters Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List one-time sends (newsletters), newest first, with their send state, schedule, target segments and sent time.
-
Draft a newsletter Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Create a draft one-time email for one or more segments, with subject and HTML. The audience and name cannot be changed later (delete and recreate instead). Nothing is sent until send_newsletter or schedule_newsletter.
-
Read newsletter results Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Daily (or weekly or monthly) counts for a newsletter: sent, delivered, opened, clicked, converted, bounced, spam reports and unsubscribes. Each metric is a list with one number per period, oldest first; add them up for totals.
Asks first 4
Anything a customer or the public sees. By default a charter grants these as Ask first: the agent sends an approval request and waits for a yes. A company admin can switch one to Auto in the charter after confirming with their second factor. Even then, once an agent has read outside content, such as a customer's email, its tier 3 and 4 actions need a person by default for the rest of that session.
-
Record an event Tier 3 · External Outside content
Record that a person did something (for example "demo_requested" with details). Event- triggered automations start immediately and may message the person.
-
Send a transactional email Tier 3 · External
Send one person a transactional email from a transactional message template (by id or trigger name) with data for its Liquid placeholders, or with your own subject and HTML.
-
Send a newsletter now Tier 3 · External
Send a draft newsletter to its audience immediately. Cannot be undone.
-
Schedule a newsletter Tier 3 · External Outside content
Schedule a draft newsletter for a future time, or change its scheduled time.
Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.
What can start work
Nothing in Customer.io starts agent work by itself. Agents use it while they work on tasks from the board, from other agents or from the sources on the Intake page.
Work an agent can take on
Examples for apps in Marketing & forms. What an agent does with Customer.io depends on the actions you grant it.
- Add new sign-ups to the right list with the right tags.
- Draft an email campaign for you to review before anything is sent.
- Report how last month's campaigns performed.
