Ways to connect

A company admin connects Mailchimp from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.

  • API key API key

Copy a key or token from Mailchimp and paste it into Everdeck.

  • Your Mailchimp OAuth app Your OAuth app

Create an OAuth app of your own with Mailchimp, paste its client ID and secret into Everdeck, then sign in to Mailchimp and approve access. Access runs through your own app, never one Everdeck shares with other customers.

What agents can do with Mailchimp

An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.

Runs on its own 8

Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.

  • List audiences Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List the account's audiences (Mailchimp's API calls them lists) with their ids and contact counts. Use an audience id as list_id in the other actions.

  • Find contacts Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Find contacts by full email address or by first or last name, across all audiences or in one. Returns each match's id (the subscriber hash other actions need), status, merge fields and tags.

  • Update contact fields Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Change an existing contact's merge fields (name, phone, address or custom fields). Does not change their subscription status.

  • Tag or untag a contact Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Add or remove tags on a contact. Tags that do not exist yet are created. Automations triggered by a tag fire unless is_syncing is true.

  • List campaigns Tier 0 · Read Outside content

List email campaigns, newest first, with status, subject, audience, send time and headline open and click rates. Filter by status or audience.

  • Read a campaign report Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Results of a sent campaign: recipients, opens, clicks, bounces, unsubscribes, abuse reports and e-commerce revenue. The campaign's own rates (opens, clicks) are fractions between 0 and 1; list_stats (the audience's average, for comparison) are percentages from 0 to 100.

  • Draft a campaign Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Create a draft regular email campaign for an audience (optionally one saved segment). Add the email body with set_campaign_content; nothing is sent until send or schedule.

  • Set campaign content Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Set a draft campaign's email body from HTML. The plain-text version is generated from it. Include the *|UNSUB|* merge tag so readers can unsubscribe.

Asks first 4

Anything a customer or the public sees. By default a charter grants these as Ask first: the agent sends an approval request and waits for a yes. A company admin can switch one to Auto in the charter after confirming with their second factor. Even then, once an agent has read outside content, such as a customer's email, its tier 3 and 4 actions need a person by default for the rest of that session.

  • Add or update a contact Tier 3 · External Outside content

Add a contact to an audience by email, or update them if they are already there. status_if_new only applies to new contacts: "pending" emails them a confirmation link (double opt-in), "subscribed" records that they agreed to marketing email (welcome automations may send), "transactional" adds them without marketing consent. Existing contacts keep their status.

  • Send a test email Tier 3 · External Outside content

Send a test version of a draft campaign to a few addresses, for example the person approving it.

  • Schedule a campaign Tier 3 · External Outside content

Schedule a ready draft campaign to send to its audience at a future time. The time must be in UTC on a quarter hour (:00, :15, :30 or :45). Needs a paid plan.

  • Send a campaign now Tier 3 · External Outside content

Send a ready draft campaign to its whole audience immediately. This cannot be undone.

Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.

What can start work

Nothing in Mailchimp starts agent work by itself. Agents use it while they work on tasks from the board, from other agents or from the sources on the Intake page.

Work an agent can take on

Examples for apps in Marketing & forms. What an agent does with Mailchimp depends on the actions you grant it.

  • Add new sign-ups to the right list with the right tags.
  • Draft an email campaign for you to review before anything is sent.
  • Report how last month's campaigns performed.
