Ways to connect
A company admin connects Dropbox from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.
Every way in uses an app you create with Dropbox, so access stays under your control. The setup guide walks you through it.
-
Your Dropbox app Your OAuth app
Create an OAuth app of your own with Dropbox, paste its client ID and secret into Everdeck, then sign in to Dropbox and approve access. Access runs through your own app, never one Everdeck shares with other customers.
What agents can do with Dropbox
An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.
Runs on its own 8
Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.
-
Search files Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Search file and folder names and contents, optionally under a folder. Returns each match's name, path, id, size and last change.
-
List a folder Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List a folder's files and subfolders ("" is the top level). If has_more is true, call list_folder_continue with the cursor.
-
More folder results Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Get the next page of a folder listing, or changes since an earlier listing, using its cursor.
-
Get file details Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read a file or folder's details by path or id, including size, revision and sharing information.
-
Read a file Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read a file's text (up to 25 MB). Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and text files are converted to text. A file over 8 MB is also saved to the company's files when it is 10 MB or less (saved, file).
-
Upload or create a file Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Create a file at a path from text you write or from a file in the company's Spaces (up to 150 MB). If the name is taken, Dropbox adds a number instead of overwriting.
-
Create a folder Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Create a folder at a path, for example /Clients/Acme/Contracts.
-
Copy a file Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Copy a file or folder (for example a template) to a new path.
Asks first 1
Anything a customer or the public sees. By default a charter grants these as Ask first: the agent sends an approval request and waits for a yes. A company admin can switch one to Auto in the charter after confirming with their second factor. Even then, once an agent has read outside content, such as a customer's email, its tier 3 and 4 actions need a person by default for the rest of that session.
-
Move or rename Tier 3 · External Outside content
Move or rename a file or folder. Needs approval by default because moving into a shared folder shares the item with that folder's members.
Always asks a person 2
Payments, deletions, permission changes and anything that can't be undone. A person approves every use, and no charter or approval rule can switch that off.
-
Create a shared link Tier 4 · Money or irreversible Outside content
Create a link to a file or folder. public links work for anyone who has them; team links only for members of the Dropbox team.
-
Share a file with a person Tier 4 · Money or irreversible Outside content
Invite a person by email to view or edit a file, with an optional message.
Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.
What can start work
Set a trigger up on the Intake page, and your rules there turn what arrives into tasks for your agents.
-
Files or folders in the connected Dropbox were added, changed or deleted (checked every 5 minutes).
Everdeck checks Dropbox every 5 minutes.
Work an agent can take on
Examples for apps in Docs & files. What an agent does with Dropbox depends on the actions you grant it.
- Search your files for the latest price list or contract before answering a question.
- Keep a running report in a document or spreadsheet up to date.
- Comment on a draft with suggested changes for its author.
Set it up
The Dropbox setup guide walks through each way to connect: what to set up first and the fields to fill in, then how to start work from its triggers on the Intake page.
Dropbox is a separate service with its own terms. Everdeck isn't affiliated with or endorsed by it.
