Ways to connect

A company admin connects Google Sheets from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.

Every way in uses an app you create with Google Sheets, so access stays under your control. The setup guide walks you through it.

  • Your Google OAuth app Your OAuth app

Create an OAuth app of your own with Google Sheets, paste its client ID and secret into Everdeck, then sign in to Google Sheets and approve access. Access runs through your own app, never one Everdeck shares with other customers.

  • Google service account Service account

Create a service account or key of your own with Google Sheets and paste it into Everdeck. The connection then works without anyone signing in each time.

What agents can do with Google Sheets

An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.

Runs on its own 11

Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.

  • Find spreadsheets Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Find Google Sheets by title or content. Returns id, title, last change and link.

  • List the tabs Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Read a spreadsheet's title and its tabs with each tab's id, name and size. Call this before reading ranges.

  • Read cells Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Read the values in a range in A1 notation, for example Sheet1!A1:F50 or 'Q3 Sales'!A:D.

  • Append rows Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Add rows after the last row of the table found in a range (for example Sheet1!A:F). Values are interpreted as if typed by a person, so dates, numbers and formulas work.

  • Update cells Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Overwrite the cells in a range with new values, row by row.

  • Create a spreadsheet Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Create a new spreadsheet in the user's My Drive with a first tab. Returns its id and link.

  • Add a tab Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Add a new tab (sheet) to an existing spreadsheet.

  • List comments Tier 0 · Read Outside content

Read the comment threads in a spreadsheet with their status and replies, and which cell each is on.

  • Comment on a cell Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content

Add a comment to one cell, optionally assigned to a person by email. Rows and columns count from zero: A1 is row 0, column 0; C5 is row 4, column 2. Get sheet_id from get_spreadsheet.

  • Reply to a comment Tier 2 · Reversible

Reply to a comment thread in the spreadsheet.

  • Resolve a comment Tier 2 · Reversible

Mark a comment thread as resolved once its request is handled.

Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.

What can start work

Set a trigger up on the Intake page, and your rules there turn what arrives into tasks for your agents.

  • New rows appeared at the bottom of a sheet the company chooses (for example form responses or leads).

Everdeck checks Google Sheets every 5 minutes.

  • A spreadsheet the connected account can see was created or edited.

Everdeck checks Google Sheets every 10 minutes.

Work an agent can take on

Examples for apps in Docs & files. What an agent does with Google Sheets depends on the actions you grant it.

  • Search your files for the latest price list or contract before answering a question.
  • Keep a running report in a document or spreadsheet up to date.
  • Comment on a draft with suggested changes for its author.

Set it up

The Google Sheets setup guide walks through each way to connect: what to set up first and the fields to fill in, then how to start work from its triggers on the Intake page.
