Ways to connect
A company admin connects Google Docs from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.
Every way in uses an app you create with Google Docs, so access stays under your control. The setup guide walks you through it.
-
Your Google OAuth app Your OAuth app
Create an OAuth app of your own with Google Docs, paste its client ID and secret into Everdeck, then sign in to Google Docs and approve access. Access runs through your own app, never one Everdeck shares with other customers.
-
Google service account Service account
Create a service account or key of your own with Google Docs and paste it into Everdeck. The connection then works without anyone signing in each time.
What agents can do with Google Docs
An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.
Runs on its own 10
Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.
-
Find documents Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Find Google Docs by title or text. Returns id, title, last change and link.
-
Read a document Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read a document's title and text as Markdown, tab by tab, including tables and lists.
-
Create a document Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Create a new Google Doc from Markdown (headings, lists, tables, links and bold text are kept), optionally inside a folder. Returns the document id and link.
-
Add text to the end Tier 2 · Reversible
Append plain text to the end of the document's first tab. Start with a newline to begin a new paragraph.
-
Replace text Tier 2 · Reversible
Replace every occurrence of a piece of text in all tabs, for example filling {{client_name}} placeholders in a copied template. Returns how many were replaced.
-
Suggest an edit Tier 2 · Reversible
Propose replacing text as a tracked suggestion that a person accepts or rejects in Google Docs, instead of editing directly.
-
List comments Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read the comment threads on a document with the quoted text, status (open or resolved) and replies.
-
Comment on text Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Add a comment anchored to a passage of the document, optionally assigned to a person by email. Quote the exact text to comment on.
-
Reply to a comment Tier 2 · Reversible
Reply to a comment thread on the document.
-
Resolve a comment Tier 2 · Reversible
Mark a comment thread as resolved once its request is handled.
Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.
What can start work
Set a trigger up on the Intake page, and your rules there turn what arrives into tasks for your agents.
-
A Google Doc the connected account can see was created or edited.
Everdeck checks Google Docs every 5 minutes.
Work an agent can take on
Examples for apps in Docs & files. What an agent does with Google Docs depends on the actions you grant it.
- Search your files for the latest price list or contract before answering a question.
- Keep a running report in a document or spreadsheet up to date.
- Comment on a draft with suggested changes for its author.
Set it up
The Google Docs setup guide walks through each way to connect: what to set up first and the fields to fill in, then how to start work from its triggers on the Intake page.
Google Docs is a separate service with its own terms. Everdeck isn't affiliated with or endorsed by it.
