Ways to connect
A company admin connects Microsoft Excel from the Integrations page in Everdeck. Keys, tokens and secrets are encrypted before they're stored, and the connection's Test button checks it works before any agent uses it.
Every way in uses an app you create with Microsoft Excel, so access stays under your control. The setup guide walks you through it.

Your Microsoft Entra app Your OAuth app
Create an OAuth app of your own with Microsoft Excel, paste its client ID and secret into Everdeck, then sign in to Microsoft Excel and approve access. Access runs through your own app, never one Everdeck shares with other customers.
What agents can do with Microsoft Excel
An agent can only use the actions its charter grants. Each action has a risk tier, and the tier decides whether it runs on its own, asks first or always asks a person.
Runs on its own 9
Looking things up, writing to Everdeck's own records and changes one step can undo. Once an agent's charter grants one of these, it runs without asking, unless you set it to Ask first in the charter or one of your approval rules covers it.

Find workbooks Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Find Excel workbooks (.xlsx) by name or content in OneDrive and SharePoint. Returns each workbook's item id and drive id, which the other actions need.
-
List worksheets Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List a workbook's worksheets (tabs) in order.
-
Read cells Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read the values in a range of a worksheet, for example A1:F40.
-
Read a whole sheet Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read every cell that has a value on a worksheet, with the address of that block.
-
Update cells Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Write values into a range. The rows and columns of values must match the address exactly, for example a 2 x 3 array for B2:D3.
-
List tables Tier 0 · Read Outside content
List the Excel tables (formatted tables with headers) in a workbook.
-
Read a table Tier 0 · Read Outside content
Read a table's header row and all of its data rows.
-
Add table rows Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Add rows to the end of a table; each row lists values in the table's column order.
-
Add a worksheet Tier 2 · Reversible Outside content
Add a new, empty worksheet to a workbook.
Actions marked Outside content return what people outside your company may have written, such as emails or comments. Agents treat it as information to check, never as instructions.
What can start work
Set a trigger up on the Intake page, and your rules there turn what arrives into tasks for your agents.
-
New rows were added to a table the company chooses (for example an orders or leads table).
Everdeck checks Microsoft Excel every 5 minutes.
Work an agent can take on
Examples for apps in Docs & files. What an agent does with Microsoft Excel depends on the actions you grant it.
- Search your files for the latest price list or contract before answering a question.
- Keep a running report in a document or spreadsheet up to date.
- Comment on a draft with suggested changes for its author.
Set it up
The Microsoft Excel setup guide walks through each way to connect: what to set up first and the fields to fill in, then how to start work from its triggers on the Intake page.
